Duke Ellington Orchestra at Schermerhorn Symphony Center

Why see Duke Ellington Orchestra?

A night of Ellington classics

Don't you dare miss The Duke Ellington Orchestra! A toe-tappin', finger-snappin' live performance of music from the great Ellington songbook, including holiday hits and some of his best loved tunes such as Mood Indigo, and It Don't Mean A Thing. This concert experience is MUST for all fans of Ellington's 'American Music' and jazz enthusiasts!

Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington rose to fame during the 1920s and beyond as a composer, an accomplished musician, and bandleader, and today is one of jazz's seminal musicians. Ironically though, he didn't like to call his music jazz, opting instead for the term 'American Music'. As a testament to his incredible contributions - not just to jazz but to music as a whole - he was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1999.
