Lyle Lovett & his Big Band Delivers
This show & the entire venue made for a great evening. Although our seats were perhaps a tiny bit too close (4th row Center,) the music had us and the crowd rocking. The music was the best but his banter with the audience & his band members and introducing them like a father would a favorite child made the evening more intimate. The "big band" Texas/country Rock a Billy sound was a delight and even with an almost 3 hour concert, we were left wanting more. The only negative for the night was after the show ended, security over hustled people out of the venue not leaving any time to browse the vendors selling merchandise, music & the like. We felt sorry for them as with the great crowd and concert, I am sure they could have sold well. Lyle Lovett has been here before and we all hope he will return soon as we plan to be there when he does. Excellent event. Thanks Lyle.
Lyle Lovett and his Large Band/Friends
The venue at McGrath Theater is great and we had wonderful seats in the orchestra section. We took our adult children with us and they also enjoyed the show. What a wonderful evening it was with no rain in sight. Because of the virus, Lyle Lovett was missing some of his band. He had guests on the base and saxophone, who were accomplished professional artists. The McGrath Theater venue is a beautiful compound. We will return and bring friends. The management could ensure that there are more food vendors as there was only one choice and they had limited offerings with no sides and only small package condiments. We could not locate recycling receptacles only trash barrels. The email that we received prior to the show indicated that the gates opened at 5:30 but they didn't open until 6:30 and the show started later than 7:30. Had we known, we would have eaten before arriving at the theater. We paid $20 in advance to park, only to discover that parking was $10 at the venue. Lyle Lovett performed to five stars, and the McGrath Theater is also five stars, with the management falling short of that.
Love Lyle Lovett all across the USA
I've had the great opportunity to see Lyle Lovett all over the US. The first was in 1993 when Julia Roberts introduced him as her husband in Noblesville, IN. Since then, I've had the opportunity to see Lyle and his Large Band, and with his friends in Indianapolis, IN., Cincinnati, OH., Vienna Virginia, Carnegie Hall in NYC, French Lick, IN, St. Michelle Winery in Washington. I traveled to Alabama so see his concert with Vince Gill. He never disappoints
Painful experience
August 14, 2023, Ryman auditorium was a painful experience as we witnessed Lyle Lovett struggle for over 3 hours. He interviewed his band members for over one hour. Yes, they are talented but he went too far. His songs were monotonous and never played a well known song for the 3 hours that we were there. We finally left at 10:30 pm. Thank God for Chris Issac that tried to help old Lyle out. If Lyle had a voice issue then the concert should have been cancelled/postponed. Hubs and I have been huge fans of LL for over 25 years. We have attended 2 of his concerts throughout the years. Something was definitely not right in last night’s show. Disappointed and more than frustrated.
Lyle Lovett i Kingston NY
I saw the program labelled Lyle Lovett & Lisa Loeb in Conversation and Song on May 11 in Kingston NY. I think the pairing and conversation format were an attempt to compensate for the fact that LL can not carry a show vocally. My friends and I thought initially that there was a problem with his microphone because of the way the volume would fluctuate. It sounded like he was punching and forcing his vowel sounds to compensate for some vocal problems. It was painful to listen to, if I had been there alone I don't think I would have stayed until the end. I enjoyed his guitar playing.
Lyle's voice was shot
Went to this concert in great anticipation! We'd seen Lyle and his big band a few years back in Saskatoon and they were great! This time though, Lyle's voice was completely shot. I felt really bad for him because he was trying to soldier on in spite of it all but it was more painful than entertaining. Hope he gets better. His guest performer Leo Koettke on the other hand was fantastic. He's got a super dry sense of humour, a wonderful baritone voice and plays guitar as though it was part of his body!
