Samara Joy and the McLendon Family
Samara Joy is in a class by herself. The quality of her voice along with superb vocal technique and breath control makes her one of the premier singers of our time. She moves effortlessly between genres including jazz, the American Songbook and gospel. She will go down in history along with Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson and a few others as a Jazz great.
Miller Theater

An awesome experience
Wow This young lady is just amazing. Her vocal talents are unmatched. The audience was captivated and mesmerized. Samara Joy reminded me of Nancy Wilson & Sarah Vaughn. I look forward to following her career as she continues evolving into greatness.
Not ready for prime time
My wife and I were both extremely disappointed with Samara Joy's performance last night. She clearly has talent and is a star to watch for the future. But she is not ready for prime time yet. Her first song was a disaster. Unable to reach the vocal extremes she was attempting, it was quite embarrassing. When she is singing mid-range she does quite well. But at the moment doesn't have the vocal strength to reach the full range the higher octaves or those segments of the song that require huge output. But we were mostly upset with whoever booked her. Did they not go and listen to her live and recognize that she is not yet ready for a venue like Koerner Hall? I am sure with practice and a good vocal coach Ms. Joy will indeed be a joy to listen to in a few years. Just not yet.
Totally Agree -- Not Ready for Prime Time
I have seen Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight, Lena Horne --- Samara is not remotely there and yes, the first song was a disaster. She should be playing small club venues. She has much to learn
